JALOUX COMME UN POU
Literally: As jealous as lice
Best equivalent: Green-eyed, green with envy
Do I need to explain more? Anyone who has dealt with lice knows how territorial the parasites can be.
As always, if you know an American English expression that would match the French expression du jour, go for it!
See you tomorrow with the letter K, part of the A to Z challenge!
Haha! Love it – will have to find a way to slip it into conversation. Merci, Evelyne!
It’s a funny one for sure, and quite vivid:)
Ha! I do like that.
Told you! Funny is always a winner, I agree. With three years of French expressions under my belt, I’ve started to sort them according to categories. Sometimes I chuckle as I write them down, something I never did when I “spoke” them. The distance makes them much more interesting. Glad you smiled at the mention of lice 🙂
Hi Evelyne – that was funny … but certainly not what I was expecting … yugh … never having had kids – lice have never really entered my repertoire … other thing have! Cheers Hilary
Yeah, it’s a funny expression. I’m glad to say that my family has not met lice either, despite having four kids who went to school for so many years 🙂
I never thought of lice as jealous. I learned something new today.
Re lice: I wonder if lice problems are more common now than they used to be. I don’t think I ever heard about anyone with lice when I was growing up.
