French Friday: Happy Holidays!

The customs officer checked my visa and face. When he handed me back my passport he said something that I didn’t understand. But since he smiled very kindly at my baby daughter I smiled too.

The following day, everybody across town was saying the exact same words. That’s how I understood that Americans wished each other “Happy Holidays” until the New Year, including airport customs officers to immigrants.

Years have passed.

As we are at the height of another holiday season, it is my turn to pronounce these words, once unfamiliar but now as familiar as my native language.

Happy Holidays to each and everyone of you!

And since flowers say everything so much better, I let them do the additional talking.
