Prom Night and First Round of French Presidential Elections

Interesting weekend for me with senior prom on Saturday night, an American celebration that never cease to surprise me. The election of the queen and king of the prom was a funny prelude to the anticipated – at least for me – first round of French presidential voting.
François Hollande, the Socialist candidate, came out on top, but his lead over the current president Nicolas Sarkozy, was narrow.
The surprise came from the disparity between the pre-election surveys, predicting a more distinct victory for Hollande, and the success of the far right wing led by Marine Le Pen.
Not unlike, according to my daughter, between the queen and king favorite nominees and the elected ones.
Never underestimate the outsider.
However, unlike prom night where les jeux sont faits, the French will have to wait two weeks until they elect their next President.
